City & Library of Saint-Rapahël
The cultural policy
Saint-Raphael has a very assertive cultural policy. For the past decade the town has created several structures, including a multiplex cinema, an intercommunal theater, a cultural center, all of which are at the forefront of new technologies to offer a rich and diversified cultural program to its population. Opened in 2000, the three-thousand-square meter Cultural Center includes a music conservatory, exhibition halls, a multimedia expression workshop and a public library.
The library network
Since 2011, the activities have been enriched and extended to include innovative digital services in a mutualized network, uniting the Library of Saint-Raphael with the villages of the Pays de Fayence, situated in the North-Eastern part of the Var, to create the network “Mediatem” (www.mediatem.fr). This library network constitutes one of the most diversified digital libraries in France, in addition to its 230,000 physical document collection.
Commitment to the European project ERASMUS+
Given the dynamism of Saint-Raphael in public reading and digital development, it’s commitment to the project “Reading and Writing in Europe in a Digital Context of Change” represents an excellent opportunity to collect information concerning a prospective vision of different publics’ expectations, particularly those of today’s youth, during 2-years of upcoming experiences to be shared and evaluated; the topic will be addressed in a multidisciplinary approach (scientific, sociological, educative, artistic….) in close partnership with the European high schools and that of Saint-Raphael.
